Glendower is committed to promoting environmentally friendly travel to and from school and have been part of Kensington and Chelsea’s School Travel Plan (STP) Scheme since September 2007. As part of our STP we have introduced a range of initiatives to encourage parents and pupils to opt for sustainable alternatives to using the car. These include:
• Establishing a ‘No Drop Off / No Pick Up’ Zone which extends along the school borders before and after school. The school provides its own traffic wardens to monitor the scheme each day.
• Taking part in the Walk On Weekdays scheme – girls who either walk to and from home, arrive and leave by scooter or walk from outside a designated area are awarded badges on a monthly basis. WOW is a national scheme that has proved extremely popular with the girls.
• Allowing parents to drop their girls off from 8.15am in the playground, where pupils are supervised by classroom assistants. This enables parents to park for free in Residents Parking Bays.
• Offering an after school Sisters’ Club between 3.30pm and 4pm so that all siblings can be collected at the same time to ease congestion and parking.
As a result of the commitment shown by parents and pupils the school has been awarded a Bronze Level for Sustainable Travel every year, an achievement we are very proud of.
