Reducing Effects of Global Warming Debate

On the 19th of June, Year 6 school journeyed to Turnham Green to take part in our final debate with Garden House and Orchard House. This debate was all about reducing the effects of global warming in order to make our planet a better place.

We were all given a possible solution to the problem to research. These included: wind power, nuclear power, biomass power, stopping deforestation and using electric cars. Pupils from Garden House played the role of scientists and their role was to investigate how their solution works. Orchard House pupils were negotiators, so they had to consider the possible objections to their solution. Glendower pupils were entrepreneurs, so we had to think about how our solution could be implemented.

Every group had scientists, entrepreneurs and diplomats to support their solution. We spent some time discussing our ideas and sharing our research. Then, one speaker from each of these areas had to present the speech they had formed in order to argue that their solution was best. At the end, we held a vote and the wind power team (Sisi, Michelle and Isabel) was voted most popular.

I believe it was a very interesting day for all of us as we learnt all the different ways in which we can make the world a cleaner and healthier place. This was the last debate for the Year 6s – I hope we all do more in the future!
