Fundamental British Values

At Glendower Preparatory School we promote British Values through our own school values, curriculum and extra-curricular activities. Designated PSHE lessons and Assemblies are designed to specifically focus on these values and this is further supported by a wide range of opportunities throughout the year.

Fundamental British Values are:

  • Democracy
  • Individual Liberty
  • Mutual Respect
  • Tolerance of those of different Faiths and Beliefs
  • The Rule of Law

We support the values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs and these are embedded within our curriculum. These values are found in our own school values of the 6R’s. We aim to nurture our children on their journey through life so they can grow into safe, caring, democratic, responsible and tolerant adults who make a positive difference to British society.

We encourage them to be creative, unique, open-minded and independent individuals, respectful of themselves and of others in our school, our local community and the wider world.

We have a rich, diverse student body which enables us to celebrate and learn about traditions and practices of different faiths and cultures while encompassing the Fundamental British Values.

Democracy

Children are taught about democracy as part of the P.S.H.E. curriculum. They learn about government and elections. Children play an integral role in decision making at Glendower Prep and children are elected as Form and Vice-Captains.

The Rule of Law

The importance of laws, whether they be those that govern the class, the school or the country, are consistently reinforced at Glendower. Pupils are taught from an early age the rules and values of the school. They learn to respect authority and there are agreed systems to change rules if necessary.

Individual Liberty

At Glendower Preparatory School, pupils are actively encouraged to make informed choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school, we educate and provide boundaries for young pupils to make informed choices, through providing a safe environment and an empowering education.

Mutual Respect

Mutual respect is at the heart of our values. Children learn that their behaviours have an effect on their own rights and those of others. All members of the school community treat each other with respect – good manners are integral to our Fundamental Beliefs.

Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs

Glendower Preparatory School and Early Years is becoming an increasingly diverse school. We actively promote this through our celebrations of different faiths and cultures. Religious Education lessons and P.S.H.E. lessons reinforce messages of tolerance and respect for others.
